The collection contains letters and miscellaneous papers, 1824-1900, of the Wallace and related Rogers families including historian Deborah Norris Logan of Stenton, Pa., and her niece Deborah Norris Woodson of Virginia. Topics in the correspondence include family matters and social life in Albemarle County, Lynchburg, Richmond, Va., and Pennsylvania; slave deaths, a slave purchase, a love letter composed for a slave, Nat Turner's Rebellion, and the family of a free man who moved to Philadelphia; teaching; religion and a revival meeting; a carriage accident; a saw-mill accident; a sewing machine; a cholera epidemic, yellow fever and smallpox. Also courtship; clothing; gardening; hunting; seafood poisoning; travel and agriculture in Georgia; livestock sales; silkworm culture; education of women and the role of women in society; novel reading; virture; the elopment of Logan's daughter; politics in Virginia and Reconstruction. Also Civil War camp life; deserters; skirmishes; troop movements; a medical discharge; Point Lookout Prison; battles at Front Royal and Port Republic, Va. and Jackson's Valley Campaign of 1862; the Seven Days' Battles; artillery and cavalry service; retreat from Gettysburg; and the death of George Wallace from typhoid fever in prison camp. The papers also contain the will of Michael Wallace, 1845; a genealogical chart of the Rogers family; miscellaneous accounts, 1799-1872, for various items and an estate settlement; and court records, 1802-1842, of Goochland County, Va., regarding judgements rendered in civil cases. Ephemera, 1861-1920, includes an invitation, a Confederate bond, Civil War service and requisition orders, a calling card, an unidentified coat-of-arms, unidentified photographs, and unsigned poems; and an invitation, 7 November 1895, to the wedding of Charles Dana Gibson.

Deborah Norris Logan was born 19 October 1761 and died 2 February 1839. She was well-educated, married Doctor George Logan and had three sons. She wrote A Memoir of Dr. George Stenton of Stenton.
